We caught up with fellow CSC Alumni Karlie Rubin, who currently plays for Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has had a very successful year for the Lynx nation. She was happy to provide us her insight on what the college soccer experience has been like compared to when  she played and high school.

CSC: When did you get started playing soccer?

Karlie: I Started playing soccer when I was three years old with my older sister in the micro program here at Crusaders.

CSC: What position did you play and how did you end up playing that position?

Karlie: I have always played center midfield. I really enjoyed the center of the field and loved having the ball at my feet to see everyone in front of me. My last year of college soccer (right now) I have recently been moved to center forward. My coach decided that I could hold the ball to lay it off to our midfielders, plus I could score some goals here and there.

CSC: When did you start your experience playing for CSC?

Karlie: I started playing at CSC when I was three. Moved to the competitive side when I was 6 or 7 and unfortunately had to leave because there was no longer a team for me around the age or 17.

CSC: What are you currently doing and what are your plans for the future now that you’re a CSC Alumni?

Karlie: I am currently enrolled at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I have played on the soccer team here for all four years. I am in my last and final season now. I hope to stay in Boston once I graduate in December.

CSC: What has been your best soccer memory?

Karlie: My best soccer memory happened my sophomore year in college when my team won our conference for the fourth year in a row. It was a very happy moment for me.

CSC: Who is your favorite professional soccer player/team?

Karlie: My favorite player is Tobin Heath. She is good with her feet and truly loves playing soccer. My favorite team is the USWNT duh. They are awesome and such amazing role models for young girl soccer players.

CSC: Do you have any coaches who have been impactful in your youth soccer career? If so why?

Karlie: Coach Toumi was my coach at crusaders for a few years and he was awesome. He taught us how to shoot the ball and it has been something I am so very thankful for now that I have been playing college ball. My shot is something I am most proud of thanks to him.

CSC: What High School did you attend?

Karlie: I am a proud alumni of Patrick Henry High School!

CSC: What advice would you give current CSC players?

Karlie: Enjoy every moment you get to play soccer. Enjoy all the practices, the games, the long car rides, the fun wins, the sad losses. Also if you want to play college ball explore all options. Division 3 is amazing, we focus on academics as well as highly competitive soccer. It is the best experience I could have ever asked for.
